Dog Lovers, I Bet Greyhound Breeders Are More Guilty Of Animal Cruelty Than Dog Fighters?

You know greyhound racing is a somewhat popular sport and you know greyhound dog breeders do it for the money so they select the ones to keep and what do you think they do with the ones that don’t measure up. And worse, what do you think they do to the campions that win all the dog races after that dog gets older? I like animals but I really wonder if a dog is worth a man’s life?

Well, when you do the numbers it isn’t really that surprising. A dog racer probably has at least 10 litters a year and greyhounds in different stages of racing. If one dog hurt it’s leg do you think a breeder is going to pay for that dog to be taken care of forever? A dog that needs medical attention would cost the breeder a hundred or more dollars so why wouldn’t he just shoot that dog and replace it with an entire litter of dogs. And, when a dog gets too old to race… how many pet greyhounds do you really think a breeder keeps at his home? Sure, dog breeders want you to adopt their dogs to keep them from looking bad.

Any person who uses an animal and inhumanely disposes of them is cruel. This includes greyhound racing, horse racing, puppy mills and dog fighters. All of it is wrong. A dog is not worth a man’s life, but it’s sure worth a man’s career and his reputation. Do you really want to emulate someone who gets a thrill out of two animals injuring and killing each other, or gets a thrill out of drowning or electricuting them? People who torture animals are more likely to grow up to be murderers or assault people. There’s something wrong with them!

OMG this is an inherently stupid question. The owners of animals bred to race – a LEGAL business who’s aim is for dogs to race repetitively and which is regulated by numerous local, state and federal organizations vs. owners of animals bred to kill – an ILLEGAL ring who’s aim is for dogs to rip each other to shreds and which (obviously because it is ILLEGAL) is not regulated by anyone.
How much money does the dog fighting ‚industry’ donate to research health, safer surfaces, congenital issues, etc. every year? Yeah ok. How much does the racing industry put into research to make the lives of its competitors more safe and secure? Around $7million. How much money goes towards adoption efforts? Nearly $8 million last year. And just because, how much money did the greyhound racing industry pay in taxes last year? $272 million.
What happens to dogs that don’t make it on the track? The vast majority end up in adoptive homes. This includes dogs too young to race and dogs that successfully raced and get a chance at a stud career.
