Other Than Gamblers And Drunks, Do People Really Like Watching Football?

It really is a game where the bigger team always wins. The strategy is just to get in the way of the other team while the fastest guy on your team runs it in.
Maybe I am missing something, but the sport seems like nothing more than an excuse to drink and bet.

Ummm yeah …..someone said that they hope your a female asking this question, actually I’m just hoping you are from this planet gender has nothing to do with it. So you see football as something being enjoyed by only drunks and gamblers? Are you from somewhere where football is also known as soccer? I dont get how you can ask such a crazy question and your description of the game could actually apply to basketball , hockey, soccer or any number of other team sports. But then again the alcohol that I consumed while I was watching the game tonight and playing the slots on-line could be clouding my mind and I just may be the one with a mental deficiency.
Honestly I am a woman and I don’t drink and I don’t gamble but I do in fact love football. I come out of hibernation when the NFL Preseason starts and once college football starts life gets 100% better. Perhaps you need to watch a football game with someone who is passionate about the game and will teach you about the game because in your own words you are missing something! And if you get the chance go to a college game it will change your view on the best sport ever for the better I promise.

Great Question! I can see that you have put a lot of thought into this. I can’t answer why people like football, but let me add some of my own observations.
Bowling: what an idiotic game, like football absolutely no strategy. Simply rolling a ball into things. Surely this is a relic from the stone age.
Basketball: Also quite silly. A bunch of overly tall people running around trying to throw something into a hoop. The strategy, like football, is simply choose the fastest guy, give him the ball, then have him give it to the tallest guy…. repeat.
Some might say that football requires team work so everyone on the team does the required job. I heard that the line works as a unit to make holes for the fast guy to run through, and the defense line tries to bloc those holes, but that is bs. Its like you said, a bunch of heathens running into one another. In case you were wondering, the coach is there simply to absorb money. His only real job is to tell the mindless big guys which way to run on the field.
Come to think of it, all sports lack any sort of skill. What is the Olympics? It seems that the biggest, strongest, always win the weight lifting competitions, the fastest win swimming… What a joke.

I’m actually not sure that you have ever even watched football. The bigger team always wins? How about the thrashing the Colts put on the Much Bigger Bears? The League leading Colt D last season was pretty much the smallest in the conference. And if you had bothered to watch a game or two you would have seen quite a bit of strategy beyond just getting in the other teams way (and letting your fastest guy run it in.) I think you are missing something, it’s called your brain. Try watching the game before you start pontificating on it. BTW, football is better if you watch it sober. Drinks are to celebrate with after the win!

I hope you are a woman asking these kind of questions about football. If you are a man asking these questions then I feel so sorry for you. The bigger team does not always win. You can bet on any sport too not just football. You can bet on really anything. Visit Bodoglife.com You can bet on who will win an emmy, who will be president, and all kinds of different things. It seems you have a biased opinion on football. I hope you are a woman asking this question.

i don’t drink or bet, but I am territorial so i do have a heart for the game. and i do think that you summed up the jest of the game. but it is fun as hell to watch the fasted guy get tackled. and it is like chest trying to come up with strategies to over take the opponents territory.

I love to watch football because my team, the Dallas Cowboys, are just soooo awesome. I love the bragging rights. It makes me feel good to watch football because it gives me something to take about with the guys, and I actually know what’s going on.
    GO COWBOYS!

You make it sound like it’s easy.
A lot of different people like football: lawyers, doctors, costruction workers, heck Michael Phelps loves football.
    In short, your wrong.

Well, I get paid to watch football so that’s my excuse.
The biggest guys don’t always win. The fastest guys don’t always win either. I cannot count the number of games I’ve seen where the team with the better athletes lost.

Honestly it would take someone who is drunk to ever come up with that kind of explanation for football.
You certainly are missing a lot!
